Jyoti Misri Singh College, Munger
Jyoti Misri Singh College, Munger is 52 years old. Its short name is J.M.S College, Munger. The former Principal of local Model High School, Munger,Late Badrinarayan Sharma mooted a planned and constructive proposal in the Management Committee of his school that one more college in the form of Evening College be established at Munger. At that time, Late Acharya Kapilji was a nominated member of the government in, and , an elected President of, the Management Committee. Acharya kapilji liked this proposal of badri babu and he not only supported it, rather he got it passed unanimously . Accordingly, an Evening college began its journey at Model High School, Munger from the Academic Session 1961. Subsequently, a campaign was launched to run this Evening College from Model High School Munger in a convenient and systematic way. Meanwhile, with the efforts of Badri babu and Kapilji , a co-ordination committe was constituted to run the affairs of college. Kapilji and Badri babu requested the proprietor of the Minerva Painting Works, Sri R.K.Das to accept the membership of this committee. His father Narshingh babu, had an aspiration that his son, Ram Kumar Das ji take keen interest and actively participate in the public activities of Munger. Sri R. K. Das accepted the membership of the management committee of the evening College on the direction of Narsingh Babu. At that time, Sri R. K. Das ji was decorating the post of Honorary Magistrate at Munger. The Management committee of the college elected him as secretary of the college to run the affairs of the college. Initially, Sri Ram Kumar Das ji supplied necessary ledgers and folios to the college on credit for discharging its works.
Later the college committee felt the necessity of a Principal for smooth functioning of the college. The committee of the college unanimously resolved to request the superannuated Principal of R. D. & D. J. College Munger Sri Satyendra Kumar Dutta, for accepting the post of Principal of Evening College, Munger and for ths Principals of the Model High School and Nand Kumar High Scholl, Sri Badri Babu and Late Banarasi Prasad Verma respectively were endorsed with. But Sri S. K. Dutta did not accept this offer on their request. Later on Acharya Kapil was endorsed with the task of persuading Sri S. K. Dutta to accept this request. According to Acharya Kapil ji, Late Satyendra Kumar Dutta consented to adorn the post of Principal of Evening College, Munger. But he put forward a condition that the college running in Model High School, Munger be shifted to a separate building as soon as possible, so that the college could have its independent entity and development. The Honorary secretary of the college Sri Ram Kumar Das, arranged a separate building on lease. That building belonged to Sri Ghanshyam Das ji in the locality of Maksaspur. As a result of sincere effort of both the principal Sri S. K. Dutta and the Honorary secretary Sri Ram Kumar Das, Sri Ghanshyam Das ji gave permission for construction of two large halls on the land, adjourning the building. Later on Sri Ghan Shyam Das ji handed over the main building, two large halls and gate along with one bigha and Three Katthas of Land to evening college, Munger on a token rent of Rs. 75/- per month.
Later on, The college Management committee unanimously elected Sri Krishna Chandra Prasad Singh con of Sri Dashrath Babu to the post of Secretary on the basis of donation. During the tenure of Sri Krishna Chandra Babu, Sri Dashrath Babu donated the IInd instalment of Rs. 25000/- to the college and it was deposited in the security fund of the university. As a condition of donation, the name of Misri Singh, Father of Dashran Singh was added to the name of the College. The Above mentioned money was deposited for obtaining affiliation of the Degree courses and hence this college was recognised as degree. Bhagalpur University accepted the name of the college as Jyoti Misri Singh College in place of Evening College. The Arts Faculty of the college got affiliation for the Degree courses from the Academic Session 1964. After a few years, the commerce faculty of the college also get affiliation for Degree courses. This college, since the inception of its journey till now, has faced many ups and downs but its curricular and extracurricular activities have left indelible imprint within the domain of T. M. Bhagalpur University.
